If you are an adult and have a disability, you can register with us as a disabled person. You do not have to register, but it may help in getting concessions such as reduced fares for public transport.

If you wish to be registered disabled you will need written medical proof from a qualified health professional. Once you have the written medical proof you can provide this by –

  • attending the Wilberforce Centre – No appointment is necessary to attend the Wilberforce Centre (Monday to Friday 9am – 4pm) – a member of the See and Solve team can meet with you here and discuss your registration, alternatively you can leave your contact details and proof of disability at the Wilberforce Centre and your application will be processed. For any registration to be processed we will need a copy of any medical letter which is confirming disability

Once an application has been received a Social Worker will assess your application and confirm whether an application has been accepted. You will then be informed of the decision within ten working days.

Please be aware a personal Independence payment (PIP) is not accepted as proof of disability.

Replacement registration cards

Replacement registration cards can also be issued, once the necessary checked have been completed. You can request a replacement registration card by –

  • attending the Wilberforce Centre – no appointment system currently in place
  • email your request to the email address below. Please ensure you mark the subject line as Disability registration

How to register as disabled

Sight loss

Please contact your GP so they can refer you to a consultant eye specialist, who assesses whether you qualify to register as blind or partially sighted.

If you qualify, the eye specialist will complete a certificate of vision impairment. Please send it to us, were this will then be processed.

Physical or learning disability

Please visit the Wilberforce Health Centre. The necessary steps will be taken by a member of staff.

Hearing loss

To be registered for your hearing loss you must have had an audiogram or have a total or profound hearing loss. The citywide sensory team request the outcome of your audiogram to confirm whether you are eligible for registration.

Physical, limbless or learning disability

To proceed with any disability registration, you will need to bring with you written medical proof which states the nature of the disability.
